Dear All,

Just to let you all know we will shortly be running further vedic chanting workshops to learn the Purusha Sukta. The Purusha Sukta is a great hymn of creation that signifies the cosmic sacrifice. It is unique in the sense that it is found in all the four Vedas – Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharvana; thus highlighting its importance.

This Sukta glorifies the greatness of Lord Narayana – the Parama Purusha. Purusha literally means, “He who is dwelling in our body, the very Atman itself.” Hence, it is the eternal song of the Atman. This sukta invocates Lord Vishnu, who is omnipresent, omniscient and omnipotent. Lord Vishnu created the universe by sacrificing his own self (manifested and the unmanifested) . Hence the world is Vishnu and Vishnu is the world – the two being indistinguishable from one another.

It starts with describing the majestic form of Lord Vishnu and then attributes every aspect of the universe to Him. It also talks about the Jagat (Universe) Jeeveshwara (Individual and Lord) Yoga, where one should constantly remind himself/herself of this trinity and meditate on this truth.

These workshops are open to all so please forward to anyone you think might be interested. They are free and will be led by the former students of the Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning. They will be running once a month for 6 months on a Saturday in Edinurgh for 3/4 hours each session. All those interested in attending will be given a teaching CD to help with their learning.
