Sathya Sai Education in Human Values The SSE programme of education has
been designed to develop and expand a child’s personality, so that his life
would be happy, useful and fruitful both for himself and for his
community. This is achieved by
inculcating spiritual, ethical and cultural values within the growing child;
with the imbibing of fundamental principles such as Truth, Love, Peace,
Non-Violence and Right Conduct. The SSE Programme is a nine year
course, starting with children who are 6 years of age. However, developments
to the programme, alongside many requests from parents, have now led to
classes in Scotland and across the UK accepting children from the age of 4
years. Children are taught daily prayers, which inspire in them faith
and devotion to towards God. Silent
sitting helps the children to concentrate and brings them peace. Group devotional singing helps to
spread Divine love and joy among others.
Listening to stories of great men and women from all over the
world, directs them to follow the path of righteous living, and group
activities train them to share and care for others and encourages them to
participate in teamwork, which in time will help them in community work later
in their life. SSE in Scotland
Projects and work undertaken by the
children in Scotland so far, have included celebrations of Easwaramma Day at
Sai Centres, Christmas and Easter performances at local nursing homes for the
old folks, Bhagawan Baba’s Birthday Celebrations, Parents’ Appreciation Day
across Scotland and SSE Trips. These
projects usually consist of dramas and sketches, musical items, poetry recitals and public speaking. As mentioned previously, the classes
follow a structured programme, and take place weekly, with time being made for
extra practices prior to special celebrations. Currently in Scotland, there are SSE Classes taking place in
Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen with a total of over 30 pupils, not to
mention the Sathya Sai School in St Andrews and its
pupils. The Sai Spiritual Programme is a
unique programme, having its source in the “Spirit of Man”. It is therefore both universal and secular
in character and has its impact on all men of all faiths, all over the
world. It is a programme divinely
inspired by Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the educationalist par excellence, whom the
world looks upon as the “Universal Purifier”. God has given us His greatest gift,
our Children. And he has also given
us the Sai Spiritual Education Programme to nurture, and develop this
gift. It is up to each and everyone
of us to decide to use it and to remember that the actions of our children
will affect the future destiny of the community, nation and the world. |
